IRIS offers numerous and powerful functions of image processing in the field of the digital astronomical images. Iris is particularly optimized to exploit the images that come from CCD cameras.
Iris can load and save your pictures in the formats FITS, PIC (proprietary format), raw or BMP.
Iris can also read the images of the Buil-Thouvenot Atlas, a CD-ROM which contains 4649 images of 6600 deep-sky objects.
From the Command window you can execute numerous commands in on-line mode. The on-line mode of Iris is extremely practical, notably to make repetitives operations. When you will master it you will have a powerful productivity tool in hand.
Finally, Iris has some functions built to help the Audine CCD camera construction. The project Audine was developed by the Association of the Users of Electronic Detectors (AUDE). Iris is a part of this project.
